Every Microsoft product is chock-full of features and options that most people never find. Every new computer user has been forced to wonder at one time or another why they have to learn so much “technical stuff” just to use their computer for everyday tasks.
Fact is, Windows is and always has been just too darn complicated for the average person who just wants to get a job done, without having to learn a lot of technology first. After all, computers were supposed to make life easier, not more a complicated.
But maybe things are about to change … possibly quite dramatically…
Following the abysmal failure of Windows Vista it should have been obvious to everyone, developers included, that something radical had to be done.
With Windows 7 looming on the horizon (officially scheduled for January 2009), many people are now wondering if Microsoft might finally have learnt something about how to cater primarily to the wants and needs of the average computer user, rather than the superuser or aspiring technologist?
Well, only time will tell, but I’ve just read an article that gives us reason to hope that saner and simpler days lie ahead. Apart fromĀ providing a glimpse at some radical changes that might be coming our way, it’s also an interesting insight into how one person, the right person, really can make a difference.
